We just received notice that work is beginning in early Feb. to replace the water main on Southport, from Addison to Belmont. The Lakeview Chamber has been asking for this work to be scheduled early in the year, so we can minimize the disruption to businesses by getting the construction over with before Cubs and sidewalk cafe season. We appreciate Ald. Tunney's office coordinating with us on this.
The construction will require parking restrictions and traffic restrictions, but access to businesses and homes will be maintained. The water main is on the east side of the street. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times. The work is expected to take a few weeks per block, working block by block down the street from Addison to Belmont. The street will then be repaved after the water main work is completed. Properties on the street should receive 48-hour notice before any planned water shut-off.
